Thank You Longmont Community
On September 12th at 2:55 AM, I received a phone call from our city manager, Harold Dominguez, telling me we needed to make an emergency declaration due to severe flooding that was going to hit our town. The next 3 days our city experienced its worst flooding in history. So many deserve our thanks and gratitude for their response to the devastation.
The leadership, cooperation, and outstanding efforts by city staff and the city council during the crisis was exemplary. I have always valued a culture of teamwork, and the response to the flood by the City was one team, working together, day and night, and it served Longmont well. The infrastructure and key staff for an Emergency Operations Center put in place by previous councils and staff was critical to our response.
Our city employees went above and beyond the call of duty for hours and days on end, and they have my utmost respect and gratitude. It was humbling to see the cooperation and dedication from all departments and how they worked together, shoulder-to-shoulder.
There were untold businesses and organizations that unselfishly gave of their time and resources. And there are countless Longmont citizens who gave of their time and energy. We will never know the names of all these unsung heroes, but all of these selfless acts culminated in reinforcing our knowledge that Longmont is truly a special place to live.
